Rendering for Ripple Design Studio, Inc.
Concept: Provide quick renderings for clients as material and color studies. Residences designed by Ripple Design Studio, Inc.
Creation: The 3D models were created in ArchiCAD. The stylized renderings were created using Atlantis, and finished in Photoshop.
Yesler Terrace Mixed-Income Housing
Concept: Yesler Terrace is a neighborhood of Seattle consisting of affordable housing. There has been a masterplan proposal from the city to replace the existing affordable housing with new affordable housing and infill with market-rate housing.
Creation: In this design project, the focus is on affordable family housing and city living. There are shared indoor and outdoor spaces, access to gardens, entertainment, privacy and opportunities to build a community.
Saigon Architecture and Design Academy
Concept: A challenge with designing an architecture school in Ho Chi Minh City, is first clarifying what is the architectural style of Vietnam. With influences from chinese, colonial french and international style, there is not a singular style.
Creation: In order to reflect the influence of old Saigon with the modern and contemporary notions of Ho Chi Minh City, I proposed a design incorporating both. The building contains multiple courtyards, which reflect the feng shui principles (such as slow water, channeled to wading pools), surrounded by traditional detailed red gates and doors. These courtyards cores are visible through the building large window, contemporary facades.
Lents Neighborhood’s Center for Urban Agriculture
Concept: The Lent neighborhood of Portland, is an underdeveloped and in a state of transition. Recently, a tri-met station was added to the light-rail train in the Lent neighborhood.
Creation: The design has 3 components: 1. a production and distribution space. 2. an education space. 3. a housing component. The production space features a market, which can transition to an outdoor market. The education space features 2 classrooms, a meeting hall and a gallery with views and access to the external vegetation. The housing is a collection of townhomes with yards for homeowers to practice growing and processing practices at home.
Concept: The city of Vicenza is in need of an urban center building. The main piazza is the natural place for such a building, as there is already a weekly outdoor market and iconic Palladio building already there. Then challenge is to create a new building, complementing the existing classical architecture.
Creation: In this design project, in order to preserve and emphasize the beauty, of the existing structure, the façade of the Palladio building is maintained and visible within a full volume atrium, creating a strong relationship between the two buildings. This atrium space, also enhances the piazza, by providing an enclosed community space connected to the lively center.
Oregon Ballet Theatre
Concept: Pioneer Place is the living room of the city of Portland. Currently, there is a Nordstroms department store residing at this central location. The Oregon Ballet Theatre is in need of a space they can grow into, as a school and performing arts center. The idea with this project is to transform the existing monolithic structure into a beautiful and light performing arts space, showcasing the dancers and drawing attention to the arts.
Creation: In this design project, the form, grace, and balance of ballet dancers are accentuated in the building’s symmetrical structure. Since, ballet dancers are prone to practicing and impromptu dancing even when they are not in rehearsal or on stage, there are practice bars running throughout the building, and there are periodic sprung floors, to facilitate safe proper dancing. Also, dancers are accustomed to being watched, even when they are stretching, so the space is organized to showcase the dancers optimally and promote viewing.
Concept: Over the past 20 years, there has been substantial construction and renovation of warehouses and empty lots in the Pearl District in Portland, Oregon. Filled with art galleries, there is an opportunity for an international academy of fine arts alongside the park blocks. For the sake of this project, I am interested in designing a Finnish academy and
Creation: In this design project, the focus is on transparency between educations space, created through overlapping spaces. Also, by capturing light and employing day lighting strategies, the spaces are well lit and revere Finnish architecture and lighting emphasis.
Moss Street Children’s Craft Center
Concept: Eugene, Oregon is a town of arts & crafts. Currently there is a children’s school on Moss Street, close to the University of Oregon campus. The addition of an adjacent craft center could potentially become an alternative school or after school center for children interested in painting, photography and ceramics.
Creation: In this design project, the focus is on education. In order to foster education and encourage collaboration and learning, the classrooms and studios have open plans and students can walk between them with ease.
